Google has introduced Android XR, an extended reality platform integrating its Gemini AI into wearable devices, showcased during the 2025 I/O developer conference. The company demonstrated smart glasses capable of translation, navigation, media playback, and real-time assistance—positioning them as a competitor to Meta’s AI eyewear.
Beta testing is underway, with planned commercial releases in collaboration with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. This marks Google’s first major foray into smart glasses since the discontinued Google Glass in 2023.
